Kelmscott Press, Inc. Turns 70
[ Aurora,IL] - January 2006 - Aurora 's Kelmscott Press turns 70 years old. Founded in Aurora in 1936, John Strotz bought a company and from it formed Kelmscott Press. The company is the namesake of the widely-famous Kelmscott Press which operated in England in the latter half of the 19th century.
Strotz served as the Aurora company's president until his death in 1941. His widow, Olga M. Strotz, succeeded him as president and William I. Reeves became vice president and general manager. In 1963, the company was incorporated as Kelmscott Press, Inc. and new company officers were named: William Reeves, president; Thomas W. Reeves , vice president; and Loren Strotz, secretary/treasurer. In 1975, the Strotz family's interest in the company was purchased by William and Thomas Reeves. William was elected chairman of the board and Thomas Reeves became president. In 1985, Thomas and Roberta Reeves, purchased the company interest owned by William Reeves. In 2004, Thomas Reeves sold his interest in the company to current owner Scott Voris , an Aurora native and businessman. Mr. Reeves remains with the company in a consultative role.
Under Voris, Kelmscott has built on its preeminent position in the Illinois printing industry and expanded its capabilities and versatility. Kelmscott Press has remained a fixture in the Aurora business community for 70 years and employs 34 full time employees and dozens more part-time workers.
